Toledo Edison territory
City of Toledo proper, Oregon, Maumee (most), East Toledo, Point Place, Northwood, Rossford. Outage line: 1-888-544-4877. Rebate program: limited (FirstEnergy doesn't run aggressive rebate programs in Ohio).
AEP Ohio territory
Sylvania, Whitehouse, Waterville, Holland, Ottawa Hills, parts of Maumee western, far-west Toledo edge. Outage line: 1-800-672-2231. Rebate program: aggressive — heat pump $400–$1,200, EV charger $250, smart thermostat $50 instant.
How to know which serves your address
Look at your most recent electric bill — the utility name is at the top. Or call Toledo Edison first; if they don't have your address in their system, you're AEP. Or check at firstenergycorp.com/outages or aepohio.com/outages.
Why this matters for trade work
Panel upgrades require coordination with whichever utility owns your service drop. A Toledo Edison customer needs an Edison disconnect, not an AEP one. Reputable Toledo electricians know which side of Sylvania Ave or Holland-Sylvania Rd they're working on and call the correct utility.
Frequently asked
Can I switch utilities?
No — service territory is set by Ohio PUCO. You can switch your generation supplier (the company that produces your power) under Ohio's deregulated market, but the wires + meter belong to whichever utility serves your address.
Do AEP rebates apply if I move from Toledo Edison to AEP territory?
Yes. As soon as your service is on AEP, you're eligible for any active AEP Ohio rebate. New homes in AEP territory often have AEP-rebated heat pumps installed as a builder option.
