California Privacy Rights
Last updated: 2026-06-25
This notice supplements our general privacy policy and describes how California residents may exercise their rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA).
1. Categories of personal information collected
In the past 12 months ProFix Directory may have collected the following categories of personal information about California residents (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.140(v)):
- Identifiers — name, email address, postal address, telephone number, IP address.
- Customer-records information — payment method tokens via Stripe (we do not store full card numbers).
- Commercial information — leads purchased, claim purchases, refund history.
- Internet activity — pages viewed, referring URL, browser type, device, and interaction events.
- Geolocation — approximate (city / ZIP) location derived from IP, or submitted ZIP for lead routing.
- Inferences — preferences and needs inferred from submitted job description and trade category.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information as defined in CCPA § 1798.140(ae) beyond standard authentication credentials.
Categories of third parties. We disclose identifiers and the commercial information in a homeowner lead (name, phone, email, ZIP/city, job description) to contractors who purchase that lead. We also disclose information to the service providers / sub-processors listed in our general privacy policy (hosting, database, payments, email, SMS, analytics). We do not disclose personal information to data brokers or advertising networks.
2. Sources of personal information
- Directly from you (lead submissions, contractor signup forms, support emails).
- From your device automatically (server logs, analytics cookies).
- From public records (Ohio Secretary of State, state license boards, BBB, U.S. Census, OSHA, state and county permit feeds).
- From sub-processors strictly to operate the service (Stripe, Resend, Twilio).
3. Purposes of use
- Matching homeowner leads to relevant contractors.
- Operating the directory, processing payments, sending receipts and notifications.
- Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and duplicate submissions.
- Aggregate analytics on which trades, cities, and pages drive value.
- Complying with legal obligations and enforcing our terms of service.
4. Disclosures and "selling" or "sharing"
When you submit a homeowner job request, we disclose your request — including your name and contact details — to the matched contractor(s) in your area who purchase access to it. Those contractors pay ProFix a referral/access fee for that introduction. Because that disclosure is for valuable consideration, we treat it as a "sale" and/or "sharing" of personal information under the CCPA/CPRA and give you the right to opt out (see section 5 and the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" control below).
We do not sell or rent your personal information to third-party data brokers, list brokers, or advertising networks, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Apart from the lead disclosure above, we disclose information only to sub-processors that operate the service on our behalf (see the general privacy policy for the full list).
We have no actual knowledge that we sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.
5. Your California rights
- Right to know. You may request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
- Right to delete. You may request deletion of personal information we have collected from you. See /data-deletion for the fastest path — we respond within 30 days.
- Right to correct. You may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing. Because we disclose homeowner lead details to the contractor(s) who purchase your lead for valuable consideration, you may direct us to stop. Use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information control in section 6, send a request to privacy@profixdirectory.com with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share", or enable the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal, which we honor automatically. When your browser sends the GPC signal as you submit a job request, we flag that lead and do not offer or sell it to paying contractors — instead our team handles it by hand so you can still get help while your contact details are not sold. An email or /data-deletion opt-out applies the same way to lead requests we receive from you after we process it.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not use sensitive personal information for inference beyond what is necessary to provide the service.
- Right to non-discrimination. We will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or provide a different level of quality for exercising any of these rights.
6. How to exercise your rights
Use any of the following:
- Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. To opt out of the disclosure of your lead to paying contractors, email privacy@profixdirectory.com with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share", submit the request at /data-deletion (note "Do Not Sell or Share" in your request), or enable the Global Privacy Control signal below. No account is required and we do not require you to verify your identity to honor an opt-out.
- Submit a request at /data-deletion — covers know, delete, and correct.
- Email privacy@profixdirectory.com with the subject "California privacy request" and the right you are exercising.
- Opt-out signal. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We enforce it automatically at the point of collection: a job request submitted with GPC enabled is flagged and is never offered to or purchased by a paying contractor — it is routed to our team for manual handling instead.
7. Verification and authorized agents
We will verify your identity before fulfilling a request (typically by matching the email or phone number on file). You may use an authorized agent — the agent must provide written permission signed by you, and we may still ask you to confirm the request directly.
8. Response timelines
- Acknowledgement: within 10 business days.
- Substantive response: within 45 calendar days (extendable by 45 days if necessary).
- No fee for the first request in any 12-month period.
9. "Shine the Light" (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.83)
California residents may request, once per year, a list of categories of personal information disclosed to third parties for those third parties' direct-marketing purposes. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct-marketing purposes.
10. Minors
We do not knowingly collect personal information from California residents under 16. If you believe a minor has submitted information, contact us and we will delete it.
