Cookie policy
Last updated: 2026-06-11
This page lists every cookie and browser-storage key ProFix Directory uses, what each one does, and how you control them. The short version: a small set of first-party essentials, analytics only with your consent, and no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies — ever. This policy supplements our general privacy policy.
1. Categories we use
- Essential. Required for the site to function and to remember choices you made on this device. These do not track you and cannot be switched off.
- Analytics (opt-in). Google Analytics 4 and PostHog, used to understand which pages help homeowners. These are set only after you click "Accept all" in the consent banner.
- Advertising. None. We do not set advertising cookies, and we do not share data for cross-context behavioral advertising.
2. Essential cookies and local storage
These are first-party values stored in your browser's localStorage (a cookie-like technology). They never leave your device with each request and contain no personal information:
pfx-cookie-consent— remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so the consent banner does not re-appear on every visit.profix-contrast— remembers whether you turned on high-contrast mode (toggle in the footer).- Locally saved preferences such as your saved-pros list, which stay on your device and are never transmitted to us.
3. Analytics cookies (consent required)
If — and only if — you click "Accept all" in the consent banner, the following third-party analytics tools may set cookies:
- Google Analytics 4 — cookies beginning with
_ga. Used for aggregate page-view and traffic-source statistics. Retention follows Google's standard GA4 schedule. Google's cookie documentation. - PostHog — cookies/storage beginning with
ph_. Used for product analytics (which features get used). PostHog's privacy documentation.
Two honest caveats. First, both tools are configuration-gated: when their keys are not configured in a given deployment, no analytics code runs and no analytics cookies are set at all, regardless of consent. Second, our analytics gate is conservative — if you have not made a choice yet ("unset"), analytics do not fire.
4. The consent banner
On your first visit a banner offers two choices: Accept all (essential + analytics) or Reject non-essential (essential only). Your choice is stored in pfx-cookie-consent. Until you choose, analytics are off. Rejecting never reduces functionality — every directory feature works identically either way.
5. Changing or withdrawing your choice
- Clear this site's data in your browser settings (the
pfx-cookie-consentkey) — the banner re-appears on your next visit and analytics stay off until you choose again. - Delete existing analytics cookies through your browser's cookie manager at any time.
- We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as an opt-out.
6. What we never do
- No third-party advertising cookies or ad networks.
- No selling or sharing of personal information collected via cookies.
- No cross-site tracking, fingerprinting scripts, or social-media pixels.
- No opaque tag managers — every script we load is listed on this page.
If we ever add a new cookie category (for example, display advertising), we will update this page and re-prompt for consent before any new cookies are set.
